David is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and is also admitted to the California State Bar.  He has a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in theoretical physics.  His law degree is from the University of British Columbia.

He is a former member of a Senate sponsored National Research Council committee providing expert advice to the US federal government on US and foreign intellectual property protection strategies and their impact on the competiveness of US companies.  He is a member of the Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of California and a former member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association as well as several regional intellectual property law organizations.

David has extensive experience in the area of intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent matters and obtaining patents for clients in complex technology areas.  His patent prosecution experience before the USPTO includes preparation of patent applications, amendments, and appeals, and preparation of all related Patent Office papers.  His experience also includes counseling clients in various related aspects of intellectual property law, including licensing and IP due diligence issues and validity and infringement opinions.  Dave’s litigation experience includes patent, trade secret, copyright and International Trade Commission litigation. In one notable case, while a partner at the Los Angeles office of a major international law firm he was a senior member of a litigation team that successfully achieved a $100 million patent infringement result for the firm’s client after two jury trials and two appeals to the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

David’s technical areas of expertise include computer hardware and software, short and long range wireless communications systems, including end to end wireless infrastructure components such as antennas, amplifiers, filters, linearization systems and other components, fiber optic communications systems and networks, optical systems, lasers, imaging systems, analog and digital electronics, integrated circuit design and processing, materials science, display technologies, medical devices and data storage technologies.
