Andrew Lew
Trademark Agent and Technical Advisor
Andrew is a Canadian trademark agent and a BC lawyer. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience gained while working as senior IP counsel and Senior Director of IP at companies such as Westport Innovations Inc. and Ballard Power Systems Inc., both of which focus on clean energy and technology.
Andrew has worked for more than 20 years in all aspects of intellectual property including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial designs. In that time, he has helped companies build intellectual property portfolios that have enabled them to raise capital, gain competitive advantages, form strategic partnerships, and to steer technology development to capture key intellectual assets. Andrew has prepared and prosecuted trademark and patent applications, managed extensive trademark and patent portfolios, represented clients on trademark opposition and expungement proceedings, and provided litigation support in disputes involving intellectual property and commercial matters.
Andrew has assisted clients in both private practice and as in-house counsel with a wide range of IP-related corporate matters including advising on commercial transactions, completing technology transfers, drafting licensing and subscription agreements, advising on and drafting company intellectual property and privacy policies and website end user agreements.
Andrew has a background in engineering, and has worked previously as a Professional Engineer, as a mechanical project engineer and project manager in the pulp and paper industry.
In his spare time, Andrew enjoys skiing, cycling, paddling and yoga. He also takes an active part in the community by volunteering at his church, and at organizations such as United Way, Elections Canada and Scouts where he was a leader for 9 years.
